There are not many analog copiers manufactured anymore due to the shift to digital, but analog still remains the lowest cost solution to copying other than blueline. Blueline copiers that utilize the ammonia process are now pretty much gone. Analog copiers use plain paper and a dry ink process like an office copier but have some limitations of their own. These are features like only being able to make up to 9 copies of one original at a time, no colalated sets or plotting. But for the money, they serve their niche well.

Digital inkjet copiers that are available are simply a scanner coupled with an inkjet plotter with a software interface and a stand to make them a copier. Even the HP 815 mfp is a Contex scanner with the HP 800 plotter. These solutions can vary quite a bit based on the software interface as to how they will work in your environment. Take the HP solution for example, we feel that this is a great solution for an environment of walk up coping, but lacks easy operation for scan to file and the 800 is not the best CAD plotter. We can help direct you to a solution that will meet all of your requirements the best possible way.

LED copiers are for companies that require speed and have volume. LED devices are more expensive and they also require more local maintenance, but the cost of supplies is much less. So, if you have volume, either plotting or copying, then an LED device can make financial sense for your company. LED devices range from 4 “D” size per minute to 22 “D” size per minute and usually have an integrated scanner as part of the system. Like with inkjet copiers, the interface can make the difference in how the system works for your environment. If a copier is what the main function is then and integrated copier is the best fit. If your main functions are plotting and scan to file with some copying, then a solution consisting of a standalone scanner and plotter may be a better fit.

In summary, there are two different types of digital copiers. One based on Inkjet technology, the other LED. Inkjet solutions are slower and less expensive but have the added feature of color. LED solutions lend themselves more to CAD plotting and volume copying. Our favorite solution that meets all requirements is combining a color scanner, a color printer, and an LED device to accomplish color and black & white copying. Please call or email us to configure a system that meets all of your requirements without spending too much or getting a partial solution.
